What would you pay after wind or hail damage?

Use the wind/hail deductible on your policy and an estimate of the damage.

How this works

A percentage deductible uses your dwelling coverage, not the repair bill. For example, 2% of $300,000 is $6,000. With $10,000 of covered damage, you pay $6,000 and insurance pays an estimated $4,000.

You pay the smaller of the damage or the deductible. Insurance pays the amount above the deductible, assuming the damage is covered. This estimate does not account for exclusions, depreciation or other policy limits.

Virginia permits separate wind/hail deductibles and limits property deductibles to 10% of dwelling coverage. Check renewal notices: insurers must notify policyholders of unilateral wind deductible changes and explain the calculation.
